Our grandson is a high functioning autistic and we have bought him a jellyfish tank (don't worry the jellyfish aren't real!)

It's very calming to watch. It has LED lights that sequence through red, green, blue, purple and various combinations and illuminate the tank and the fish. It gets good reviews and quite a few people mention that it helps them sleep (although I think you'd need an understanding partner). It auto switches off after 4 hours.

looks very impressive Paul,

but as you say you'd have to have an understanding Partner,

do let us know how it helps your Grandson,

He loves it. It's hard to know how calming it is because he is generally calm when he's here (and it is installed in his bedroom here).

We enjoy it too! BigGrin

i know i couldn't have one here,

posted enough time's about how bad a sleeper i am .. but hey ho can wish.

we did have a very active fish tank, i never wanted it, gave in and got into it .. decorated it, chose all the rocks, scenery, fish .. think we had near on 30 tropical fish, we are now down to one and he soldiers on. my Sister had to pop in to feed him when we go away, mind you she waters our garden for us too.

i hated coming down in the morning and seeing another one had popped his clogs Sad and hubby had to fish it out, so once this last one has gone that will be our fish tank days over with .. this one must be coming up about 10 now.

glad your Grandson is enjoying the tank though Paul ThumpUp

The boot's on the other foot here. Now that I am off the huge steroid doses I sleep pretty well and it's my wife who's the insomniac. Fortunately I have never had a problem sleeping with a light on.

How tolerant is your other half Suzanne? The light is more of a bright glow compared to a normal bedside lamp. You never know? And maintenance is dead easy. We set it up a Christmas and it's not had to be touched since,

hi Paul,

i was thinking about this as i logged off before,

my problem is that i wake at the crack of dawn, i have been a poor sleeper all of my adult life .. stems back to anxiety issue's as a teenager ( briefly mentioned it in Ailsa's week of misery thread ) should add fortunately anxiety left me in my early forties but sleep pattern still same.

so i have always had a tablet to help me sleep, doubt my body could do without it now, but as i say i wake most days very early. we invested in some heavier curtains from John Lewis to help with the morning light, but really doesn't make much difference.

so i doubt this would help me anyway. i am used to sleeping in the pitch dark as is hubby ( mind he nods off at the drop of a hat ) funnily enough when we go on holiday i often sleep better then, well sleep longer in the mornings.

i guess i am lucky that i have no pain at all when lying down, and can lie still even when awake early hours without disturbing hubby.

oh suzzane,i was a nocturnal child and now in my mid 50's still the same,my son was a nightmare till he turned 17 so him and I would watch tv or play quiet games in the night,i was always the mum that picked the kids up late evenings now he's 31 is a better sleeper but has to do a work out at the gym mon to frid to get his sleep so he has got my gene but on an other note my daughter 28 could sleep through a bomb going off and did sleep through a helicopter landing in a park right next to our home, now I go with the flow as on my own with dog,he sleeps and I pad about all night,i sometimes have a nap but 10/20min and I am fine,i like my tank and have the light on timer,i do find I watch it and not the telly and its a talking point with friends and their grandchildren just love them, but I do like the idea from paul in the future to watch much cheaper and no maintenance, dorothy
